Attaining adult status in Hong Kong does not demand a death-defying feat such as catching a shark, leaping off a cliff or climbing a very tall tree. All you need to do here is simply collect a new ID card from the Immigration Department when you turn 18. However, in some African and Asian cultures young people must go through physically challenging tests to prove that they are ready to move on to the next stage of life. A documentary called Becoming A Man will follow every step of four young people - Junior from Kontu Island in Papua, Wabak from Penercost Island in Vanuatu, Banda from Central Africa and Kole from Ethiopia - on the trials and tests they have to undergo to reach adulthood. The show will be screened on Discovery Channel at 9pm on Sunday.
