Symbol of faith

Bookcases don't have to be boring Swedish designer Anki Gneib (www.ankigneib.se) proves that with her Not ($6,500) and Messiah ($13,000) shelves, which are available in Hong Kong from E'z Design (room 1402, Kam Hing Building, 20 Hillwood Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 6420 8560; www.ez-design.org). Inspired by text from the Koran and highly stylised Persian calligraphy found in ancient mosque mosaics, the shelves incorporate the symbols for Not and Messiah. They are made of 12mm-thick transparent acrylic in red, orange and violet. As well as offering an innovative way to display books, they make a colourful statement in any room.
