Car park blaze damages goods in containers

Firemen spent more than three hours fighting a blaze in a car park in Sha Tau Kok yesterday. Officers were called to the car park in Ng Chow South Road when two containers were found ablaze just before 11am. They used four jets and the fire was put out just after 2pm. Second-hand computer parts and clothes stored inside the two containers were damaged. A Fire Services Department spokesman said they were investigating the cause of the blaze. Initial investigations showed there were no suspicious circumstances.

e-stamping service to make agreements safer

The Inland Revenue Department has launched a new e-stamping service for tenancy and sale agreements and for property documents. People can apply for the service through the internet at the department's website, www.esd.gov.hk. The new service is believed to be safer and more efficient.

Gambling raid nets 21 players and $1,700

Police arrested 21 people and seized $1,700 and gambling items during an anti-gambling operation in the car park of a fruit wholesale market in Yau Ma Tei. The 18 men and three women, aged between 21 and 65, were found playing dice games when officers raided the gambling den in Reclamation Street at about 2.30am.
