I AM in total sympathy with Teri Fitsell's comments concerning the Italian Football programme (South China Morning Post, September 29), now moved to Sunday mornings on TVB.
Over the past three years, the show has been by far and away the best soccer programme on TV. At a stroke, it is now the worst.
The Irish commentator is clearly commentating over the highlights of the game, whereas Martin Tyler was obviously commentating live. The unfortunate Robin Parke soundalike, although he can pronounce Italian names with panache, is undoubtedly the worst soccer commentator I have ever heard.
I have turned off the programme each Sunday, regardless of Gazza, Asprilla, et al, because, as Teri Fitsell claimed, it is painful to listen to.
From the opening credits (also completely banal) it appears that there is a new production company, which may explain the situation.
It is, however, a pity that the best soccer in the world should now be showcased by such a poor programme.
