SILICON Graphics is abandoning the Lion City as its Asian headquarters in favour of a more exotic location - India.
As part of the same move, it will also set up a subsidiary in India to manufacture and market its products.
The firm will be the first computer company with a 100 per cent subsidiary in the Indian domestic market.
Silicon Graphics Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. would invest Rs 300 million (about HK$74.6 million) over three years, officials said.
The company will set up a plant in the Delhi region, and it has promised to export 25 per cent of its production.
It estimates production will touch Rs 500 million in three years, with exports of Rs 100 million.
The company hopes to help Indian domestic and export industries use graphic tools to improve products. It also hopes its entry into India will generate business for other American software companies that support its systems and also spur Indian software development.
