Influenza B

Features: More stable than Influenza A because it doesn't change often, so tends not to cause epidemics. Currently, numbers are slowly rising.

Symptoms: Chills, fever, muscle aches, extreme fatigue, throat cough, runny/stuffy nose. Can sometimes cause stomach pain, cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Complications can be pneumonia and dehydration.

Treatment: Bed rest, paracetamol, vitamin C. Increase your intake of fresh fruit, vegetables and fluids. Seek medical/hospital care if symptoms don't improve after three to five days

Influenza A

Features: This virus is unstable. It changes often to create new forms. Classified by changes to H and N antigens, the current types of influenza A circulating in Hong Kong are H3 92 (523 cases in June) and H1N1 (four).
