A woman has been fined $10,000 for auctioning online counterfeit designer goods she bought in Shenzhen. Vivianforni Yeung Wai-lam planned to sell bogus Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Hermes and Giorgio Armani items on the Yahoo auction site. The fake goods were worth about $9,400. In Eastern Court, the magistrate heard that customs officers began to investigate counterfeit leather goods being auctioned on Yahoo's local bidding sites early this month. After identifying Yeung through an internet service provider, a customs officer pretended to be a bidder for a counterfeit Louis Vuitton handbag that Yeung put up for auction on August 8. The officer met Yeung at Sheung Wan MTR station to pick up the bag and paid for it with marked notes. After the purchase, the officer revealed her identity and arrested Yeung. In a search of her Sheung Wan home, officers seized counterfeit designer goods including handbags, wallets, ties, caps and coin purses with forged trademarks. Yeung admitted she had registered at yahoo.com to sell the goods she bought in Shenzhen. She said she had earned up to $2,000 in such deals in the past.
