Popularity of ministers slightly up, poll shows
Popularity ratings for all 14 government ministers have risen slightly recently owing to a more relaxed political atmosphere, a University of Hong Kong survey has found.
A poll by the university's Public Opinion Programme, which interviewed 1,011 people from August 2 to last Sunday found Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's rating rose from 59.1 marks out of 100 to 61.5.
Financial Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen's rating also increased from 56.5 to 58.4 marks, while Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie's rose from 46.5 to 47.5.
Outgoing Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food Yeoh Eng-kiong, who has resigned over handling of the Sars outbreak, enjoyed the biggest increase from 42.5 to 47.9 marks. It meant people's anger with him had subsided after he quit, programme director Robert Chung Ting-yiu said.
