A 16-year-old schoolboy who admitted stabbing his pregnant girlfriend had intended to die with her because he did not know how to solve their problems, the Court of First Instance heard yesterday.
After stabbing the girl with a fruit knife, he handed it to her and asked her to stab him, but she refused, the court heard. The girl later made a false complaint of robbery to explain her injuries.
The defendant, who could not be named to protect the identity of the girl, has pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding. He also has admitted two charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim in 2002, when she was 13 and 14.
The girl, now 16, gave birth to a baby boy last August.
The court heard the pair, who studied at the same school, became lovers in December 2001.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions John Reading SC said the girl found out she was pregnant in March last year. After discussions, the pair decided to go to a clinic in Stanley to obtain an abortion.
On April 26, the schoolboy bought the knife in Tsuen Wan and hid it in his rucksack before meeting the girl and going with her to Stanley. He took it out in Main Street and stabbed her from behind in the right shoulder.
