TNT Express Worldwide, which is developing an intra-Asian express freighter service, plans to include Kuala Lumpur as one of its stopovers next year.

At present, its freighters serve Manila, Taipei and Singapore, but TNT Express Worldwide Asia Pacific senior vice-president Richard Davis told the Shipping Times in Kuala Lumpur the company's freighter arm has obtained landing rights into Kuala Lumpur.

''We will probably mount the service into Kuala Lumpur after Jakarta and Hong Kong, which will be launched in three months,'' he said.

The company operates its freighter service in Asia through Manila-based Pacific East Asia Cargo (Peac), in which it has a 20 per cent stake.

Peac now operates two British Aerospace 146, dubbed the quiet trader, which are owned by TNT Express Worldwide.

Mr Davis said the company will acquire four more of the aircraft next year due to overwhelming response.

The aircraft are now operating at about 65 per cent capacity.
