'Cheap and convenient' meals sold to Disney park workers
Police have broken up three suspected triad gangs illegally selling lunchboxes to workers at a Disney park construction site in Penny's Bay in an operation with an annual turnover of $7.3 million.
Seven men and five women were arrested yesterday in a raid by police and staff of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
The lunchboxes, including some from a cooked food outlet with substandard hygiene, were selling for $20 from vans outside a construction site.
With about a third of the site's 3,000 workers buying from the illegal vendors, the business generated profits of about $10,000 a day for the Sun Yee On, 14K and Wo Shing Wo triads, according to Detective Senior Inspector Law Sau-lin.
The lunchboxes were bought in Tsuen Wan, Tung Chung and Tsim Sha Tsui and taken to the site by van.
The vans drove onto the site, often at high speed, police said.
