Zhuhai authorities have detained two vice-chairmen of the Gree Group, amid persistent reports of internal strife and intrigue at the state-owned appliance maker. According to unnamed sources cited by Sina.com, the executives, Liang Jianhua and Du Jiang, may have been arrested in connection with financial irregularities at a Gree Group subsidiary, Zhuhai Landa Compressor. Mr Liang, who is also chairman of Hong Kong-listed Dynamic Global Holdings, was detained in Zhuhai on August 4, Caijing magazine reported. Sina.com reported that Mr Du was arrested at the same time. On August 5, Gree Group (Hong Kong), a subsidiary of Gree Group in which Mr Liang owns a 49 per cent stake, bought 45.84 million shares of Dynamic Global at 5.1 cents per share, raising the subsidiary's stake in the company to 24.05 per cent from 22.53 per cent. Dynamic Global shares fell 15 per cent on August 5 and 11.8 per cent on August 6. The investment holding company said at the time that it was 'not aware of any reasons' for the share-price movements. Gree Group's Shenzhen-listed subsidiary, Gree Electrical Appliances, one of the mainland's three biggest air-conditioner makers, began petitioning the Zhuhai government last year to remove then group chairman, Xu Rong, from office. Zhu Jianghong, chairman of Gree Electric Appliances, finally managed to get Mr Xu, who was also chairman of Dynamic Global, fired in January. Mr Liang took over as chairman of Dynamic Global in March, and Guo Yi, then director of Zhuhai State-owned Asset Bureau, replaced Mr Xu as Gree Group chairman. Meanwhile, shady accounting was discovered at Zhuhai Landa Compressor, owned by Gree Electrical, Sina.com reported. The former general manager of Landa, Gao Guoping, was dismissed and arrested in March. In June, Mr Guo was in turn replaced as chairman of Gree Group by Ye Zhixiong, director-general of the Zhuhai Municipal Management Administrative and Law Enforcement Bureau. Mr Ye and Mr Liang are listed as substantial shareholders of Dynamic Global.
