Alex is stuck in a bind

Dino Mahoney

'Money can't buy you love' is a wise saying. Jordan has tried to win Alex's love and affection by buying him expensive clothes and dinners, but as you will hear in tonight's episode of Toy Boy, cracks begin to appear in their relationship.

Tonight is the second last episode of this 14-part drama serial. As the story builds to an exciting climax listeners are guaranteed to be entertained.

You can listen to Toy Boy on RTHK Radio 4's Songbirds tonight at 9.30pm. Below is the first part of tonight's episode for you to read before or while listening to the drama.

(SFX: Playground)

Roger: Hey Kim ... over here.

Kim: What is it Roger?

Roger: Alex is meeting both Jasmine and Candy at The Jam Bar in Nathan Road on Friday at seven. Make sure Jordan is there.

Kim: Okay, but how do I get her there? We don't usually go to places like that.

Roger: You'll think of something.

(SFX: The basketball court.)

Ringo: Hey everybody ... stop a minute. Alex, what's up?

Alex: I've come for the practice.

Ringo: Carry on without me guys, I won't be long.

Alex: What's going on?

Ringo: Coach Lam said he wanted to see you.

(Music)

Coach: Alex, you're a fine player, one of the best I've seen for a long time but Ringo here has told me that you have a big part in the school drama ... is that right?

Alex: Yes, sir.

Coach: It's good to be involved in school activities Alex, but I think it's too much to be in the basketball team and the school drama. You must chose ... basketball or drama?

(SFX: Playground)

Kim: Hey Jordan, are you going out with Alex on Friday night?

Jordan: Don't think so.

Kim: Let's go out together then! A friend of mine told me about this really good bar in Nathan Road, it's called the Jam Bar .. I know we don't usually go to bars ... but, well, this is to celebrate you and Alex going out together.

Jordan: Okay ... let's do it. Oh Kim ... Alex has made me so happy ... I don't think I've ever felt happier in my whole life.

(SFX: Basketball court.)

Coach: Well boys ... you've put me in a difficult situation ... Alex you're saying if you don't play tonight you'll quit the team, and Ringo you're saying if Alex does play tonight you'll quit the team.

Boys: Yes Sir.

Coach: My motto has always been last in, first out ... so sorry Alex ... go away and think about and if you decide to choose basketball instead of drama you'll be very welcome to come back.

Alex: Okay Coach, I'm going ... You know Ringo you could have been the captain of the team that won the cup, but now, no offence Coach, without me, you won't even reach the second round.

(SFX: Shopping mall)

Jordan: Alex, hi!

Alex: Hello.

Jordan: How was basketball?

Alex: I decided not to play.

Jordan: What's wrong Alex? ... You seem a bit tense.

Alex: Tell me Jordan, would you rather I was a famous sportsman or a famous film star?

Jordan: Sportsman.

Alex: But I know I'm a good at sport ... I've got cups and medals to prove it ... acting would be a challenge.

Jordan: Forget about acting ... let's go and buy your shoes.

Alex: Shoes, oh yes, shoes.

Jordan: Come along ... the quicker we buy you some shoes the quicker we can get to the park.

(SFX: In a shop)

Jordan: What do you think of these shoes Alex? ... You'd look very smart in these.

Alex: (Distracted) Yeah, they're not bad.

Jordan: Have you seen any shoes you like?

Alex: Not really.

Jordan: Okay, let's go somewhere else.

(SFX: Another shop)

Jordan: Look at these Alex ... they're super smart!

Alex: Yeah.

Jordan: Do you like them?

Alex: (Indifferent) They're okay.

Jordan: What about these ... I love these ... why don't you try them on!

Alex: (Sighs) OK.

Jordan: What size do you take?

Alex: Um ... size nine.

Jordan: Same as my father. He takes size nine shoes.

Alex: Your father?

Jordan: Yes.
