Yet another organisation is moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters from Hong Kong to Shanghai.

Asia Pacific Smart Card Association chairman Greg Pote said there were two main reasons for making the move, namely 'the cost of doing business and the prospect of business development'.

The organisation has offices throughout Asia, but each has only a small number of staff.

It was determined that, because there is more to be done in Shanghai than in Hong Kong, it would be better to be based there and visit Hong Kong occasionally.

'We thought about it and eventually came to the conclusion that it would be better to be in Shanghai and to manage Hong Kong from a distance than to try to manage Shanghai from Hong Kong,' Mr Pote said.

Mr Pote said that a few years ago smart cards were thought of as mainly a technical solution, but more people and companies were looking to them today as business solutions.
