PIANO CONCERT

Piano virtuoso Peter Donohoe is set to charm local music lovers at a  concert presented by  Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

The Manchester-born musician won the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982.

Under the baton of music director Yip Wing-sie, the pianist will perform Stravinsky's Ragtime in a light-hearted, jazzy  style.

Other highlights include Beethoven's Symphony No 1  in C, Op 21 and Brahms' Piano Concerto No 1 in D minor, Op 15.

The performance will be staged on Wednesday at 8pm at  Hong Kong City Hall's Concert Hall.

Tickets at $250, $160 and $100, with half-price concessions for students, can be purchased from Urbtix on 2734 9009.

EAST MEETS WEST

An exhibition of  contemporary photographs and paintings  by local and overseas visual artists is now on display at the Art Statements Gallery (5 Mee Lun Street, Central) until September 20.

The participating artists of East-West RetroArtive  include American graffiti master JonOne and British sculptor James Wolfe, as well as Hong Kong photographers Warren Leung Chi-wo and Patrick Lee.

ANIMATION CLASSICS

A programme will pay tribute to some established animation masters through the screening of 10 short cartoons.

The works range from narratives to the absurd. They include Pritt Parn's Breakfast on the Grass (1987),   a satire about the injustices of the old Soviet system,  and Richard Kenworthy's The Littlest Robo (1999)  which revolves around a lonely boy who is isolated from his father in a deserted landscape.

Animation @ The Lab - The 10 Essentials  will be shown tomorrow at 7.30pm at the Hong Kong Arts Centre's Agnes b Cinema.
