A CORONER'S jury yesterday found that a man had been lawfully killed when police shot him during a chase in Shamshuipo. The jury, sitting with Coroner Rodney Venning, returned a verdict of death by lawful killing on a man whose identity remains unknown despite police investigations. The court heard that two police officers found the man, aged between 30 and 40, acting suspiciously in Shamshuipo on May 10 this year. The officers tried to intercept him to conduct a stop-and-search. The man entered a nearby dispensary and fled when he noticed the officers approaching him. He tried to stop the officers by aiming what later proved to be a fake pistol at them. Following a chase, the man and Sergeant Choi Siu-lung ended up in a rear lane off Lai Chi Kok Road, where the man suddenly turned round and again pointed his fake gun at Sergeant Choi. Sergeant Choi immediately fired one shot and hit the man, who was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital, where he died the same day of a gunshot wound to the chest.
