Mainlanders in court over 'fung shui' pines theft
Two mainlanders appeared in the District Court yesterday for allegedly stealing 14 Buddhist pines, also known as fung shui trees, in March.
Ko King-hung, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge, and to another of assisting Lo Ying-kong, 18, to enter Hong Kong unlawfully. Lo pleaded not guilty to theft. Deputy Judge Garry Tallentire adjourned the case for sentencing today.
Construction workers protest at unpaid wages
Fifteen labourers working on construction of the Disney Hollywood Hotel at Penny's Bay, Lantau, staged a protest outside the main contractor's office in Wan Chai, alleging a subcontractor - May's Asia Ltd - owed them $58,000 in wages.
The main contractor - Sun Fook Kong Construction Ltd - agreed to pay 80 per cent of the money owed after meeting two workers' representatives. Sun Fook Kong said it had previously paid the subcontractor, in accordance with its contract.
