Ex-university professor to appear in fraud case
A former Chinese University associate professor wanted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption for alleged involvement in a $1.5 million housing allowance fraud will appear in Sha Tin Court today. He returned to Hong Kong from Australia last night.
Paul Chan Wing-yiu, 52, is alleged to have used false or erroneous statements with intent to deceive the university when applying for a private tenancy allowance.
The alleged false statements between September 1993 and December 1998 claimed that neither he, his wife nor their relatives had a financial interest in the leased property.
Chan left Hong Kong for Australia in July 2000. The Australian minister for justice and customs signed a warrant for his return on August 13.
