AMERICAN computer giant Dell Computer Corp has established a sales network in China by appointing four retailers. Dell - one of the world's largest personal computer companies and probably the fastest growing in the United States - designs, develops, makes and markets personal computers compatible with industry standards. The establishment of its sales network strikes another note in the competition among computer companies such as IBM and Compaq Computer Corp. Dell has appointed Beijing Star, Netsoft Business Systems, Foshan Molik Computer Industry Co and Technology Research Co as authorised sales agents for its products. Foshan Molik serves governments and corporate clients throughout Asia with a marketing and support network which includes 25 cities and more than 100 sales representatives. Technology Research, a subsidiary of China Great-Wall Computer Group, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of computer hardware on the mainland. Beijing Star, with 50 subsidiaries and 29 sales offices, is engaged in research and development, particularly in Chinese character and speech recognition technologies. Netsoft is involved in hardware and software research and development. and original equipment manufacturing production of computer and telecommunications products. The China retail move is part of Dell's Asia-Pacific expansion programme that began with the establishment of wholly owned subsidiaries in Japan and Australia this year. Last month, it also entered the Indian and Thai markets.
