Children, beware: your mother knows when your hands have been in the cookie jar.

Thanks to web cameras and companion services that allow remote monitoring from anywhere in the world - call it 'nanny technology' - mothers can keep tabs on their children 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There is no shortage of options available to parents. United States-based Linksys recently unveiled in Hong Kong a new wireless webcam which transmits video via a wired ethernet port or wirelessly using Wi-fi.

'This really is an ideal surveillance device for monitoring employees, workmen, children or pets - from inside or outside the home or office,' Linksys said.

On the services side, there is Netvigator's NetWatch, SmarTone's LiveCams and HomeWatch from Hutchison Telecommunications - all of which allow video surveillance in varying forms, for a small fee.

With NetWatch, users can log on and view video captured from webcams anywhere in the world. LiveCams sends pictures directly to SmarTone customers' mobile phones.

HomeWatch allows users to receive live video of their home through third-generation handsets.
