Police were yesterday asked to search for bugging devices in the home of Emily Lau Wai-hing after a break-in at The Frontier candidate's property at the weekend.

Ms Lau, who is defending her seat in New Territories East, gave a statement to police yesterday and asked them to comb her two-storey house in Castle Peak Road, Ting Kau.

'Since nothing seemed missing, those people either came in and photographed my personal documents or bugged my house. I have serious concerns about their motives and I think police should help,' Ms Lau said.

She was still checking whether anything was missing, but said her personal diaries, which cover her appointments since the 1980s, might have been gone through by the intruders.

A police spokesman said investigations were still under way.

But he added police would not help legislators 'de-bug' their homes as security was a private matter.
