Q&A

Will Clem

How closely do you follow fashion?

I'm very interested in fashion. I enjoy going to catwalk shows and I also read a lot of fashion magazines.

So which was the last fashion show you went to see?

I haven't been to a show for a while ... I think the last one I went to was for [Salvatore] Ferragamo in Shanghai. That was last year, during Shanghai Fashion Week.

Do you have a favourite designer?

I always used to love Gianni Versace's designs. More recently, my favourite pieces have been by Tom Ford and Yohji Yamamoto. Since Tom Ford went to Gucci, the clothes have been so much more attractive, so much cooler, and the womenswear especially - it makes you look so sexy! As for Yohji Yamamoto, I was in Paris with Tony Leung about 10 years ago, and we went to his fashion show. We met Yohji after the show and he made a really big impression on me. He's the most amazing person. I really admire him.

How often do you go shopping? Do you like to take a lot of time in the shops?

It all depends, really. If I have a lot of spare time, then I'll go shopping more often. I'm normally too busy. But every season I'll pick out at least a few new pieces for myself. I'm very quick, though. I like to do as much shopping as I can in the shortest time possible. If I'm not in Hong Kong, it's a different story. When I'm abroad, I can take as long as I like. There's no media. It's so much more relaxed when you're away from the photographers. I can even go window-shopping.

How would you describe your personal style?

Simple and comfortable, with a hint of my own character. Personally, I feel most at home wearing a T-shirt and jeans. But working in the entertainment industry, I often have to wear more formal outfits.

Do you have an all-time favourite outfit?

That has to be a Gianni Versace dress I bought myself a while ago, a beautiful blue evening gown. With evening gowns, I normally just wear them once then never again, but I had to keep this one. I wore it at Cannes, to the opening of Hou Hsiao-hsien's Flowers Of Shanghai. Then later, back in Hong Kong, I wore it again to a Longines opening ceremony.
