Former Hong Kong-based French jockey Eric Legrix celebrated the birth of his second son on Sunday by winning a Group One at Longchamp the same afternoon.
Legrix could hardly contain his excitement after guiding Andre Fabre-trained Grey Lilas home in the Grand Prix du Moulin - his first Group One since returning to French racing last year.
'I can't believe it - in the morning I was driving my wife to the hospital where she delivered a baby boy called Anthony and now I am winning a Group One!' beamed Legrix. 'She is a wonderful filly - the winner, not my wife!'
Anthony is the second child for Legrix and his wife, former Hong Kong apprentice jockey Sherie Kong Pik-wai, whose first son, Samuel, was born while the couple was still based in Sha Tin.
Grey Lilas - owned in Germany by Baron von Boettischer - would have been ridden by American Gary Stevens had he not made a snap decision recently to finish his European stint early and return to the United States.
The filly was a late entry for the race, and Fabre booked Legrix, who has struck up something of a partnership with the stable lately. Grey Lilas led and was never headed.
