A MAN accused of murdering an elderly Taiwanese visitor and seriously injuring three relatives was yesterday acquitted by a High Court jury on the directions of the judge.
Jim Chandler, defending Tang Koon-yin, 32, argued that the evidence of identification during the night-time attack was insufficient.
Mr Justice Ryan agreed.
During the four-day hearing, the jury had heard that Chung Ting-shen, 65, from Taiwan had been to Ocean Park with relatives on August 3, 1991.
They were on their way home on a footpath from Castle Peak Road to a remote village near Yuen Long when they were attacked.
Chung received fatal wounds and his sister, Chung Tim-wan, his daughter, Chung Yu-hsin, 22, and his niece, Poon Kam-fun, 27, were also stabbed.
