Computer Associates International (CA), which is about two years short of its 30th anniversary as a business software supplier, will extend its presence into the multibillion-dollar consumer desktop security market.
To make up for lost time and seize some Hong Kong market share, the New York-based company's eTrust EZ Armor 2005 Security Suite was given a wide release last week at many of the top retailers in local computer shopping centres and even at Jusco department store.
CA claims the legacy of its software used in managing large organisations' networks enables it to provide enterprise-class personal computer security to consumers.
EZ Armor offers automatic virus updates, advanced e-mail attachment protection, easy-to-use firewall security settings for the novice user, and activity control to stop website monitoring. It also has pop-up advertisement blocking, cookie control and identity protection features.
The product is specifically designed for easy and intuitive use by computer users at all skill levels, according to CA. At just 18 megabytes, it is also designed to be effective without burdening PC resources.
