Name: Ng Hei-man School: Good Hope School Grade: Form Two Sport: Long-distance running Statistics: Hei-man is one of the best young long-distance runners in Hong Kong. The 14-year-old holds the 10,000 metres girls' junior record (40 minutes, 48.08 seconds), the best Hong Kong time in the 10,000m road race (39 min, 16 sec) and the 4x1,500m junior record (21 min, 8.23 sec). She represented Hong Kong at the Nike Taiwan 10K Competition and snatched the girls' under-16 title with an exceptionally fast time of 37 minutes, 43 seconds. She is also her school's Grade C cross-country champion. Soundbite: 'I will compete in the Nike Hong Kong 10K Challenge in November and I am confident of breaking last year's record. I have been training hard this summer and am currently on a special diet designed by Hong Kong Sports Institute nutritionists. I have grown taller after the summer and feel stronger now.' Interests: Long-distance running, cross-country. From her coach: 'Hei-man has the potential to become the best long-distance runner in Hong Kong,' said her coach at Pacers Athletics Club, Yap Kai-tak. 'She has been training with me for four years and I can see her improving steadily. 'She has grown taller which gives her more strength. Now she is eating properly under the supervision of nutritionists. That helps a lot. 'She still needs to improve her speed and push herself harder. 'If you compare her with Hong Kong's best female long-distance runner, Maggie Chan Man-yee, Hei-man lacks the stamina and self-discipline that Maggie has.' Ambitions: Before the Nike Hong Kong 10K Challenge, Hei-man will represent her school in the inter-school cross-country race, as well as the adidas King of Athletics grand final.
