THERE ARE THREE things most people don't know about New York house DJ/producer Sandy Rivera.
First, his Puerto Rican parents named him after Sandy Koufax, of the Yankees, even though they never watched baseball.
Second, growing up in Spanish Harlem, his musical roots are in hip-hop, yet he specialises in house music.
And third, despite starting as a DJ at the age of 13, his first official booking wasn't until years later, playing before 2,000 people at a gig in France.
Rivera, who plays tonight at One-fifth, is a solid name in the global party circuit and renowned for his work under the moniker Kings of Tomorrow (KOT) and the club anthem Finally.
Rivera is certainly a difficult man to keep track of. 'I'm always DJ-ing somewhere, everywhere, every weekend,' he says over his mobile phone, while on his way to London's Heathrow, to take a flight to Ibiza for a gig before heading back for a party in Newcastle the next day.
