Ambrose Leung

March 17, 1956: Born in Hong Kong.

Early 1970s: Finished secondary school.

1970s: Began taking part in demonstrations, protests and  campaigns.

1978:  Was involved in the 'Golden Jubilee' incident, where activists protested against corruption in a church school, then against the government for closing it. 1979: Jailed for one month for taking part in an illegal assembly in Hong Kong to   mark the Tiananmen Square incident.

1988: Began a marriage that lasted three years.

1989: Took   a key role in the campaign in Hong Kong  over the  Tiananmen Square crackdown.

From 1989 onwards: Closely collaborated with other pro-democracy activists and was barred from  the mainland.

Assuming a leading role in the April 5th Action Group, he became well-known to the public for his frequent clashes with police and officials. October 1998: Was convicted for contempt of Legco for disrupting a meeting and sentenced  to 14 days on parole.

October 2000: Convicted   over another protest in Legco and jailed for 14 days.

September 2000: Ran and lost his first attempt in a Legco election. November 2003:  Lost a district council election  to the pro-Beijing camp by a slight margin.

September 2004: Elected as a legislator for New Territories East.
