Long Hair faces battle if he is to win the war

Former talk-show host Albert Cheng King-hon called him a mirage, but 'Long Hair' Leung Kwok-hung has become highly visible since his election to the Legislative Council a fortnight ago.

He hit the headlines when he declined to shake hands with Tung Chee-hwa in their first encounter eight days ago and asked the chief executive to step down.

One day later, he was locked in a sharp verbal exchange with angry onlookers at the City Forum in Victoria Park.

Last Friday, he gave the Legislative Council Secretariat his own version of the oath he is prepared to take when Legco is sworn in on October 6.

On top of the Basic Law provisions on the oath of allegiance, Mr Leung has insisted on including in his statement references to Chinese people, Hong Kong residents and the fight for democracy and justice, and the upholding of civil rights and liberties.
