A new restaurant will soon open in the recently renovated Jumbo Kingdom in Aberdeen harbour. Jumbo Cruise, owned by the Cafe Deco Group (Peak Cafe, now in Mid-Levels, One Bar + Grill in Exchange Square, Byte in Cyberport, and - of course - Cafe Deco on the Peak), will open in mid-November on the top floor of the floating restaurant. Graeme Reading, chairman of the Cafe Deco Group, says they plan to keep many of the original 1960s design details - the elaborately carved bar, lighting, the central pagoda and two small pavilions at the side. Commenting that the original kitsch decor is 'so bad it's good', he says they want to 'respect the madness and make it more amazing' by adding 'elegant resort' touches, such as teak-wood flooring and comfortable chairs.
