APPRENTICE find Francis K. S. Lam made it two wins in a week with an impressive all-the-way success on 54-1 outsider Namjong for retaining trainer Peter Ng Bik-kuen in yesterday's third event, writes Lawrence Wadey.
Lam, who is superb value for his 10-pound claim and well worth following, looked to have a very cultured ''sit'' on his mount as they forged clear to score by a short head from favourite Lionheart.
The 19-year-old son of an Aberdeen chef was confirming the impression given at Happy Valley on Wednesday night when he won on Captain Ron for Ng. He looks to be one of the big hopes for the future among the local riding ranks.
Ng went on to complete a double when his lightly-raced Gold Capture totally outclassed his Class Five rivals in the sixth event. Gold Capture looks to be on the verge of bigger and better things.
There was also a first career win for apprentice William K. W. Lee who prevailed close home on Wylie Wong's 56-1 improver Fun And Smile in the fifth.
They scored by a head from Lawrie Fownes' Fortune Way who had no luck in running. Fownes gained swift compensation when his Sky Horse held Charity Spirit by a short head in the seventh.
