The election watchdog is to submit a report to the chief executive as soon as possible on this month's Legco poll, which was hit by a series of blunders.

A spokesman for the Electoral Affairs Commission said last night that for the past two weeks they had been focusing on 40 of the complaints filed. These cover the bulk of the nearly 3,500 complaints lodged over the September 12 poll and come from candidates, their agents and the public.

'We aim to submit our report to the chief executive well before the statutory deadline, that is three months after the conclusion of the election,' the spokesman said.

He said the commission was also reconsidering the use of Ying Wa Girls' School in Robinson Road as a polling station after election chief Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing had to go there on polling day to make more room for electors.

Long queues of voters formed at the station because of its small size.

'We will definitely review whether the same venue should be used for polling in future,' the spokesman said.
