Two more hikers have been found to have contracted the bacterial disease leptospirosis, the Department of Health said yesterday.

The cases came to light four days after the department confirmed a 21-year-old hiker had caught the disease. All three took part in a hike in the Ma On Shan area on August 28 organised by the Boys' and Girls' Association.

The department's Centre for Health Protection contacted more than 300 of about 400 participants, but has found no other infections.

The latest victims are a 36-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman.

The man developed fever, chills and vomiting on September 5 and was admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital three days later. He recovered and was discharged on September 16.
