Following the John Moore stable has been a sure-fire way to back winners in the early part of the season. But after five wins and six minor placings from the first six meetings, the Australian's contenders at Sha Tin today seem to be the centre of lopsided demand. Great Star, a first-up second to Taiji Spirit on September 11, heads the overnight lists at $30 (for $10) in the second race, despite his modest one-from-29 career record. Master Marauder is the stable's next representative in the fourth, and his overnight quote of $58 isn't overly generous either. That's not to deny Master Marauder's claims over the 1,600 metres on turf in Class Four, but the price is scarcely a luxury for a horse who went around at $280, $650 and $160 respectively at his last three starts. Moore's race five contender, Master Gigolo, not only enjoys the support of Moore fans but those of champion jockey Douglas Whyte as well. Add the excitement generated by a nine length barrier trial win and Master Gigolo was always going to be favourite for the Class 3 on the all-weather track. His overnight price was $31. John Size and Shane Dye are the team responsible for the shortest-priced favourite on overnight lists, that of Fashion Jewellery, which dominates the market at $24 in Race 8 (C4, 1,000m). Fashion Jewellery is undoubtedly one of the main chances following two pleasing runs from a spell - a first-up fourth and a last-start second to Rare Collection, when Dye fired in an unsuccessful objection against the winner. In the same race, Danny Shum Chap-shing has opted for blinkers for the first time on topweight Cendamy, who will be having his second start for the stable since transferring from the care of David Hill. Cendamy, to be ridden by Glyn Schofield, has only won one of his 24 starts but has positive course-and-distance figures of a win, two seconds and three thirds from 10 attempts. The gelding's achilles heel has been lack of early speed in these sharp contests, but Shum hopes the addition of blinkers will correct this issue. With Fashion Jewellery dominating early betting, Cendamy is an attractive $46 second favourite.
