Wong Kar-wai's epic 2046 premiered in Hong Kong last night in the absence of stars Faye Wong, Takuya Kimura, Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li. But it was still a glamorous night for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Wong, wearing his trademark sunglasses, walked the red carpet outside Broadway Cyberport with the film's Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Carina Lau Kar-ling and Chang Chen.

Last night the actors said the long filming period was 'torture'.

'I can't do another five-year film,' Chen said. 'Four years are fine. But please, no more five years.'

Lau, wearing a low-cut black dress, agreed. 'I can't spend another five years on just one film any more,' she said. 'And Kar-wai wants me to put on weight all the time.'

But Leung, who won the Cannes best actor award with Wong's Happy Together, held a different opinion. 'I don't mind if it takes a long time, if I can be paid day by day,' he said. 'I love acting. I don't care if it takes me 10 years to make a film.'
