The trial of Yim Pek Ha, a wealthy housewife accused of torturing her Indonesian maid, heard yesterday how the husband of the accused had slammed the door on the bruised and bleeding 19-year-old after she had been escorted back to her employers' flat.
Security guard Abdul Aziz, 40, testified on the second day of the trial that while making his rounds at the upscale Villa Putera condominium in Kuala Lumpur on May 19 he found Nirmala Bonat injured and crying on a stairway.
He said there was blood on her face, her lips were cut and swollen and her arms and legs appeared to be scalded. 'She was trembling all over,' he said.
Mr Abdul testified that he took Ms Bonat back to her employers' flat and knocked on the door. He said Yim's husband, Hii Ik Tiing, opened the door and he asked him if Ms Bonat was their maid.
'Then he said 'Nirmala is useless ... you can have her if you want,' and slammed the door,' Mr Abdul said.
Yim, 36, is accused of causing 'grievous hurt' to Ms Bonat by burning her with an iron and scalding her with hot water.
Judge Akhtar Tahir rejected an argument her lawyers made on Monday that the charges should be dropped because no time had been given for the three alleged assaults, and so no alibi could be offered.
