Many young people may have a hard time when it comes to studying classical Chinese literature. Understanding the meaning of classical Chinese is one thing, but memorising text that's not written in the language we use today gives most of us a headache.
Veteran musician Armando Lai Wai-yin has a great idea - sing it out loud.
Lai, who has been appointed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as this year's community cultural ambassador, has composed the music for 150 of the existing 300 Tang Dynasty poems.
He says that it's not only the easiest way to understand and memorise Tang poems, but it also helps people learn the poems in their original form.
'Tang poems were initially written for singing, not just reciting,' says Lai.
'There were music scores for Tang poems, but most of them have been lost. What I have done is bring them back to what they were supposed to be originally.'
