Hong Kong-born Princess Alexandra, who is seeking a divorce from Prince Joachim of Denmark after nearly nine years of marriage, has already bought her own home, the royal palace said yesterday.
It said that Princess Alexandra, 40, signed the papers for the white, two-storey 7.2 million kronor (HK$9.3 million) Copenhagen villa in June, three months before the September 16 announcement that the pair planned to divorce.
'I can confirm that the princess has bought the house described in the media,' said palace spokeswoman Lis Frederiksen.
Yesterday, a gossip magazine and two rival tabloids reported that Princess Alexandra had bought the 2,895 sq ft villa in a residential district that houses several foreign embassies. The previous owner was the Slovenian embassy.
The divorce of Prince Joachim, 35, and the former Alexandra Manley of Discovery Bay will be the first in the Danish royal family since 1846.
After the divorce announcement, Princess Alexandra moved into the couple's Copenhagen apartment in the downtown Amalienborg Palace while Prince Joachim stayed in Schackenborg Castle, north of the German border and 300km from the capital.
