Thousands of residents yesterday took part in the first open day at the newly built People's Liberation Army barracks in Taipa, Macau.
The event formed part of the celebrations to mark National Day.
Amid the activities, the crowds watched a soldier clamber to the top of a five-storey building in under nine seconds. Children also lined up to try aiming assault rifles under the instruction of a PLA soldier.
Demonstrations of army training and cultural performances were staged and the public also had a glimpse of the soldiers' daily lives when they visited their quarters.
The Taipa barracks started operating earlier this year. Other barracks for the troops are in the Outer Harbour area.
Yesterday morning, Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah watched parades of gymnasts, boxers and marchers.
