CHAMPAGNE flowed at Discovery Bay as the golf club's 10th anniversary celebrations were given the perfect start with a double victory in the Hong Kong Titleist Inter-Club League. The club, perched 230 metres above sea level on Lantau Island, opened for play in mid-1983 and chose this week to mark the occasion. In addition to entertaining their reciprocal club from Japan, Kagoshima's Kuko 36 and staging the annual Anniversary Cup, a special VIP invitational tournament, followed by a dinner, will be held on Sunday to commemorate the first 10 years of the club. And the week could not have had a more fitting beginning as they swept aside the challenge of Clearwater Bay to clinch the Titleist League for the first time in both the A and B divisions. In Division A, Discovery Bay went into the match needing only to avoid defeat to claim the title. But they ended the season in style with a comprehensive 3-0 success against admittedly understrength opponents. The victory is Discovery Bay's first at Fanling since the league's inauguration three years ago. The club's B team required a victory by at least 2-1 against Clearwater Bay to claim the title on points difference. They won 21/2-1/2.
