A 41-year-old mainlander was jailed for more than five years yesterday for robbing two tourists on The Peak.

The District Court heard the man robbed a Danish woman of her handbag and pushed her 5 metres down a slope while she was walking along Lugard Road on May 10.

Karin Tan, 63, suffered a leg injury but avoided more serious harm when a tree broke her fall.

Three weeks later, the defendant snatched the handbag of a 30-year-old New Zealand woman walking on Pokfulam Reservoir Road.

The defendant was arrested on June 20 by police who found him loitering on The Peak.

He was charged with one count of robbery and one of theft.

The mainlander pleaded guilty to both charges during yesterday's hearing and was sentenced to five years and four months' imprisonment.
