Recent hostage dramas involiving Chinese
April 11: Seven decorators from Fujian are held hostage by militants in Iraq. They are released on April 13.
May 3: Three engineers are killed by a car bomb in Gawadar, Pakistan, on their way to a seaport project run by state-owned China Harbour Engineering Company.
June 10: 11 construction workers are killed while sleeping in their tent in Jalawgeer, Afghanistan, in what was described as a terrorist attack. Five others are injured. The dead were among 123 China Railway Shisiju Group Overseas Corporation workers employed on a World Bank-financed road project.
September 24: Three engineers working for a dam project in Pakistan are caught in a 10-minute gunfight. One is slightly injured.
October 9: Two engineers are kidnapped by Islamic militants in Pakistan. One dies in a rescue operation yesterday.
