PAUL Simon told Life magazine about his style of songwriting: ''My lyrics are stream of consciousness, edited. I'm just telling people what crossed my mind, hoping it's interesting enough that they say, 'Yeah, that's right. I like the way it leaps'. ''You don't want to be predictable. On the other hand, you don't want to be so loose that people say, 'I don't know what the [bleep] he's talking about'. ''I know I'm not the smartest person on the planet, but I know I'm pretty smart. I know pretty much where I'm at. I don't overrate myself. And I don't underrate myself. ''If I have an anxiety that's based on nothing but anxiety, it's of having nothing more to say. That the muse just . . . left. ''Artie [Garfunkel] and I used to have this joke where he's become this incredibly wealthy guy and he comes into a club with a whole retinue of beautiful people, and I'm there, singing Feelin' Groovy. This pathetic little moment.''
