Emergency SMS number for disabled
1-MIN READ1-MIN
People with speech or hearing problems will be able to send SMS text messages to police when emergencies arise under a new service - the first of its kind in the world - beginning today.
Users will be able to send an SMS message to the hotline number 992 if they have an emergency and the message will be handled in the same way as a 999 call.
But the service is only open to those who have registered. Unregistered callers will be rejected, as the service is only intended for those who cannot call 999.
