Product: Sony Ericsson P910i smartphone Price: $5,980 Pros: Screen resolution, increased memory, clear interface Cons: No megapixel camera, small keypad

The difference is in the number. Whereas 12 months ago Sony Ericsson's P900 smartphone was a significant improvement over the original P800, the company's latest version is more of a tweaking than an overhaul.

But while the appropriately named P910i may not offer enough to encourage users to upgrade, the phone still packs enough punch to win some new fans.

As with the company's other recent releases, Sony Ericsson has significantly upgraded the screen resolution on the P910i. The phone's TFT screen now boasts 262,000 colours, which makes viewing e-mail and playing games easier than on the P900.

The company increased the internal memory from 16MB to 60MB, which is useful for storing photos and e-mail attachments. Hardcore snappers can boost storage to 1GB with a Memory Stick Duo card. A 32MB card ships with the phone.

However, Sony Ericsson should have added a megapixel camera to take full advantage of the improved screen resolution and storage. This is a curious omission, given that such cameras are increasingly common on rival phones, including Nokia's 6630 smartphone and Sony Ericsson's other recent release, the S700i.
