CitySeen reported yesterday that Metro Radio DJ Barry Yip Man-fai broke a world record last weekend after singing karaoke for more than 81 consecutive hours. He was joined by 63 celebrities over the four-day period. He seems to have planted ideas in some of their minds, as imitators are rushing to come up with their own schemes for getting into the record books.

Pop idol Juno Mak Chun-lung played off on the karaoke theme by suggesting he could sing solo non-stop for a whole day. His only worry, he said, was how he would be able to relieve himself. Andy Hui Chi-on, who sang the final song with Yip, had a much more social idea: mahjong. Hui may be biting off more than he can chew with his mahjong idea. For most Hongkongers, 81 hours at the mahjong table is just a walk in the park.
