John Lam has spent many years in the classroom as an educator, but his real flair is for graphic art. Embarking on a new career direction, he wants to break into the freelance world of graphic design.
Before completing a diploma in education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), School of Education, Mr Lam did a Bachelor of Fine Arts at CUHK. He also pursued a CUHK certificate programme in computer graphics, animation and image design.
Although he taught a range of subjects at Form One to Five levels, his passion was in sharing his knowledge and skill in art and design.
'I have learned to operate many different software programmes, and am considering future study in building websites,' he said. 'I have experience in simple animation and would like to also design posters, commercial packaging, book covers and illustrations.'
Ideally, Mr Lam would like to work for a company on a part-time, freelance basis. He is sociable, easy-going and friendly. Having worked with children most of his life, he is easy to talk to and work with.
He owned and operated a learning centre, primarily focused on arts and crafts workshops. He has also taught Chinese language at the Hong Kong Tang King Po College, instructed children's summer bible classes, and sponsored the Kid's Workshop.
