Set this House in Order
by Matt Ruff
Perennial $105
Andy Gage's body is host to a hundred souls, living in an imaginary house inside his head. One of these, the sensible and sensitive Andrew is in charge, having taken over from his father, Aaron. The other souls include: Adam, a rebellious teenager; Jake, a frightened little boy; Aunt Sam, an artist; and Gideon, a dark soul who wants to get rid of Andy and run things on his own. Andrew helps Andy get a job at a software firm near Seattle, but struggles to keep the other souls in line. Andy's new co-worker, Penny, also has multiple personalities, although she's only partially aware of it. When several of Penny's souls ask Andy for help, he reluctantly agrees - which upsets the stability of the house.
