Name: Tang Yik-chun

Sports: Athletics

Achievements: Yik-chun, 18, was at his best in winning the 200 metres (21.25 seconds) in the Watson's Athletic King Championships last month.

He also placed second in the 100m (10.61) behind Hong Kong record-holder Chiang Wai-hung.

Both  times were Yik-chun's personal bests and earned him the Junior Athletic King award.

In June he was men's 100m champion at the 2004 National Open Invitational Track and Field Championships in Manila and a 100m semi-finalist at the 11th Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Malaysia. He won the men's 200m at the Hong Kong Summer Invitational Athletic Meet in July.

Soundbite: 'Athletics challenges me and tests my limits. My results have improved in a short period and that encourages me. My family supports me and that is important.'

Interests: Watching and playing football,  playing computer games.

From his coach: 'He has a clear target and knows what he has to sacrifice to face the challenge,' said Benny Lai Chun-hung, Yik-chun's coach at the Watson's Athletic Club.

'He has a good physique for sprinting. His performance  is stable and his wide steps are an advantage in sprinting. He is serious and diligent during practice.'

Ambitions: Yik-chun is aiming to break the Hong Kong junior records in the men's 100m (10.54 sec) and 200m (21.44 sec) as well as the SAR record in the men's 200m (21.21 sec) by the end of the year.

Next year he will compete  in the 400m and his target is to run under 48 seconds.

He wants to be a full-time athlete.
