PIANO CONCERT

Emanuel Ax, one of the world's most sought-after pianists, will make a rare Hong Kong appearance in a concert presented by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ax is famed for his commanding tone and profound insight into the Romantic repertoire. He first captured public attention in 1974 when he won the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, at the age of 25.

Under the leadership of conductor Edo de Waart, Ax will play Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet and Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements.

The concert will be staged tomorrow and Friday at 8pm in Hong Kong Cultural Centre's Concert Hall. Tickets cost $580, $460, $340 and $180, with half-price concessions for students, and are available from Urbtix on 2734 9009.
